    Garden Design
These are original hand drawn plans to suit your individual requirements. It may be that you want a completely new garden or that you just need a difficult area redesigning. I will carry out a consultation visit to discuss your requirements (style, features etc), to establish the site details - surroundings, soil type, pH, aspect and orientation and I will arrange to take accurate measurements of the garden. On a scaled plan I will then draw up three different design ideas based on all the information for further discussion. On my return visit we will evaluate the designs and I will draw up a final plan and planting scheme if required.

Planting Plans
Do you spend a fortune on plants which fail to thrive?
Planting plans can be commissioned independently when no design is required. All plants included in the planting scheme should thrive in a northern garden and will be chosen and placed for optimum performance.

Consultation Visits
During these visits I note the features of your existing garden including the surroundings, soil type, pH, aspect and orientation and listen to what you want to achieve. Using my experience and observations I suggest what is possible and how this can be achieved. Quite often clients have a good idea as to the changes they wish to make or as to the effect they want to achieve, but benefit from this discussion session to help clarify their thinking.

The cost of the consultation visit is refundable should you decide to proceed with either a full garden design plan or detailed planting plan

Support service to new gardeners
When a new garden has been designed and implemented I would be happy to work with clients as long as is necessary to ensure they are confident to maintain their garden.
Support visits may be helpful to people who have acquired a new garden, but are unsure about looking after it or developing it. Support visits can help when you are not sure about what to do or when to do it.

In September..
A must have purchase
is a cyclamen house plant. If bought now it should flower well into next March. This plant has a reputation for being difficult, but the secret is to keep it on
a windowsill out of
direct sunlight and to water thoroughly from underneath as soon as the flowers wilt slightly, usually about once a week.

In October..
Clear all tubs, hanging baskets and window boxes of summer bedding plants.

Before re-planting with winter and spring interest plants, replace the compost -
old compost can hold disease and viruses.
The key plants for containers over
winter are evergreens (Ivy for example),
spring flowering bulbs, polyanthus,
primroses, pansies and heathers.
